Paper Handling – PJP’s Perplexing Paper Project

Paper comes in all shapes and sizes

A customer approached us wanting a turnkey solution for handling paper.

Sounds easy?

Well…

Several issues made their request a challenge. One particular obstacle was the need to centralise round discs of paper, that could be of different diameters, onto a conveyor. In fact, the product could weigh up to 50 kgs and have a diameter ranging from 300-600mm.

Design skills at the ready for paper handling

PJP pondered the issue before using our specialist design capabilities to create a simple, cost-effective bespoke solution in both 2D and 3D drawing packages. We worked with the customer, using and valuing their input from the initial concept design stage through to detailed design… and the eventual manufacturing of the solution.

A new paper handling invention: the product centraliser

The resulting ‘product centraliser’ that we created was able to centralise a paper core product to within 1-2mm of the conveyor centre line. This meant that the customer’s overhead robot could pick and place its gripper to into the core of the product exactly on the centre line of the conveyor. It would then lift and transfer the product onto awaiting pallets.

The solution also included an overhead timing belt system to accurately move the centralising mechanism in conjunction with a low friction modular belt conveyor which reduced wear on the base of the product.

Not just a pretty face

This is a great example of listening to the customers complex requirements, using our experience and creating an ingenious new paper handling system. Another bespoke solution designed and manufactured by PJP Conveyors.

We are more than just a conveyor company!

A Conveyor Belt That Helps to Make… Conveyor Belts

A ‘circular’ conveyor belt industry

PJP Conveyors recently created these two off-horizontal belt conveyors for a US business. The business themself has an international remit manufacturing stainless steel conveyor belts. The resulting steel belts at the end of the production line form part of new specialist food-grade systems. These end products transport edible products to freezers and ovens at speed – and as we all know, speed is of the essence in food handling!

Working hard with stainless steel wire

These PJP belt conveyors are from our standard range of tracker conveyors. Their application is to transfer stainless steel formed wire from new machines to three assembly stations. It is at these stations where the wire is made into belts by the customer’s skilled operating staff.

Special features of the PJP belt conveyor system

Each of these PJP belt conveyors is reversable and possesses an independent control system. This builds in a lot of adaptability into the customer’s materials handling processes. Human appendages (we’re mainly talking fingers) are all safe since we included stainless steel finger protection. There is also an emergency stop pull cord to shut the system down at speed if needed. Our conveyors here also have product transfer plates and underslung centre drives which, if you are a conveyor connoisseur like us, you’ll appreciate.

Need a conveyor?

It doesn’t matter where you are in the world – UK, Europe, USA, Asia, Australia – we can help by carefully designing, building and installing just the solution you need. Whether it’s a manufacturing application, a sorting application or a delivery application – simply contact us for a quote.

Twin Conveyor Belt System for Printing on Containers

We can engineer a conveyor belt system in all sorts of clever ways to allow for special operational procedures.

Helping the food industry print on packaging

Have you ever noticed that food packaging often has information printed directly onto it, in addition to its label? Usually this is ‘Best Before’ or ‘Use By’ information.

To print like this, you need something like one of these PJP twin belt conveyors. It has a central gap to allow for ink jet printing on the base of containers.

The gap is large enough for a print head but small enough that products won’t fall through it. Products sit solidly on both belts bridging the gap.

Strict hygiene requirements accompany anything to do with food. This system has been built for a fish-processor, hence, it is manufactured from Stainless Steel. The plastic modular belt design we’ve chosen is suitable for washing down and easy cleaning.

An adaptable and safe solution

Flexibility is built into the design. It has adjustable side guides. We’ve also introduced lockable castors so the whole unit is easy to move around.

We maintain Safecontractor accreditation and its priciples feed through into everything we do. Health and safety is paramount in all our designs. So naturally, there won’t be any concerns like finger traps.

This particular conveyor is now used over in Ireland, supporting the food industry.
