Bespoke Conveyors for Plastic Extrusion Pipe-making

A catalogue of different pipe requirements

Without a doubt, sometimes only bespoke conveyors will do.

PJP recently supplied three bespoke conveyors to a major plastics extrusion company. The client supplies pipes for domestic and commercial settings. We needed to provide a system to take extrusion sections of pipe directly off the production line and deposit them into stillages for storage.

We call these types of conveyor “off-feed conveyors” since they moves items between different stages within the production line process. In this case, from manufacture to storage.

Heating, drainage and plumbing have various demands and require a multitude of different length pipes. For that reason, we created a moveable end-stop to allow different cut lengths of product to be handled.

We made the bespoke conveyors from a robust mild steel construction. We also engineered the conveyors to be mobile. This meant the conveyors could be moved between different production lines and offered maximum versatility and ROI for the customer.

Specially made electrical controls

To complement the system, PJP coupled the conveyors with specially designed electrical controls. Specifically, the controls allowed speed adjustments to be made on the conveyor system.

We built, then integrated the electrical controls with the customer’s own extrusion line machinery. Unquestionably, this offered a seamless customer solution.

Speedy delivery from the heart of England

The bespoke conveyors and electrical controls were designed and manufactured at PJP’s in-house facility in Nottingham.

The system was delivered without delay in an impressive 8 weeks from the order being placed.

A Challenging Double Heavy Duty Pallet Lift

A heavyweight, complex pallet lift challenge

A customer contacted us requiring a bespoke double pallet lift system. It needed to have bi-directional operation to manoeuvre a staggering 480 pallets per hour.

It had to be fully controllable via an HMI screen and, as is often the case, the customer wanted as much to be automated as possible. This included an interface with collection robots (a type of Automated Guided Vehicle or AGV). The only manual intervention in the system was loading via pump trucks.

Plucky pallet lift needed

To add to the challenge the weight the system had to handle was extremely variable: from 10kg to 2 Tonnes!

Safety was, of course, paramount (our SafeContractor status is testament to the priority we give to health & safety). The pallet lift system needed light guards and other crucial mechanical guarding in its design.

A conveyor system that quickly paid for itself

PJP designed, manufactured, supplied and installed the whole system including pallet lifts, conveyors, a bespoke controls package & AGV interface. Now, the system achieves throughput over 5 times more than the previous (manual) method. ROI was achieved in less than 12 months. A great result.

Bespoke solutions tailored to customer requirements

Often our customers need bespoke solutions for their requirements – it’s very rare to find two factories or warehouses that are the same. Certainly we have never had to make a pallet system quite like this one before.

Contact us and tell us what you need to achieve in your warehousing or manufacturing process and we’d be delighted to see if we can help you achieve your goals.
